ATLANTA, Ga. – Home Depot has recalled about 200 four-drawer whitewash chests in its Home Decorator’s collection due to a tip-over and entrapment hazard.
While no injuries or incidents have been reported with the chests, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said they are unstable if not anchored to the wall. This poses a serious tip-over and entrapment hazard that can result in death or injuries to small children. The CPSC also said the units do not comply with the performance requirements of the U.S. voluntary industry standard (ASTM-2057-17).
Consumers have been advised to immediately stop using the recalled chest unless it is properly anchored to the wall, and place it in an area that children cannot access.
The recall includes the Home Decorator’s collection print block four-drawer whitewash chest, model number HDC-14012. The unit is made with mango wood and has a distressed finish. It is 44 inches tall and weighs about 96 pounds. A white label on the back of each unit lists the manufacturer as Country Art & Craft LLP of India and shows the production date in black text.
The chests were sold online at www.homedepot.com between May 2015 and December 2019 for about $900.
Consumers can contact Home Depot for a full refund with a free chest pickup. For more information, they can contact Home Depot at 800-466-3337 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET Saturday. Information also is available online at www.homedepot.com under the Product Recalls tab.
